About LISTO

“LISTO: A College Prep Course for Latino High School Students” is a new program of the Latino Student Fund that was developed in response to increasing educational needs for our fastest growing demographic that has the greatest lag in high school and college completion rates. Today, the college-going rate for Latino high school graduates is 37% and around half of Hispanics enrolled in college are the first in their family to pursue higher education. Financial aid and scholarships are crucial for many Latino students, but on average, they receive lower amounts of aid of compared to any other racial or ethnic group. LISTO seeks to remove common barriers to higher education by increasing college readiness and helping Latino students and their families navigate the complex college admission and financial aid process. Registration information will be available in August of each year.

College Preparation Courses

		What? A college preparation course designed for Latino students. Who? Latino high school students in grades 10-12 that live in the DC Metropolitan area. When? Saturdays throughout the Fall of each school year. Where? The National Cathedral School in Washington, DC
High school students enrolled in the LISTO College Preparation program participate in sessions on the importance of going to college, financial aid and scholarships, essay writing, and career planning. The sessions are culturally competent and tailored based on the participants’ grade level. LISTO courses cover:  ·The Importance of Going to College  ·Time Management & Study Skills  ·College Visits  ·Essay Writing  ·Financial Aid Basics/Scholarships  ·Latino College Night at AU   ·Q&A with Hispanic Professionals  ·Q&A with Current College Students     After completion, participants of LISTO & LISTO Rapido will be equipped with the following:   ·Knowledge of the college admissions process  ·Familiarity with different higher education options  ·Understanding of how to apply for financial aid   ·Draft of the college essay & personal resume    If you are interested in learning more or adding your email to our mailing list for future college prep related programs, please email programs@latinostudentfund.org or call the office at 202-244-3438.
